A Travellerspoint blog

next stop: phuket

onwards young man!

View iain goes bananas on idhowe's travel map.

Well, I survived 'one night in Bangkok' - - and yes, i get my kicks above the waistline, sunshine. Khao San Rd gets very interesting after midnight: everyone still standing is invariably staggering drunk and surprisingly, usually British! That is, except for this Brit, of course. Sad thing about that is that it's true. I blame jetlag. That, and the fact that the Thai girls are beyond scary, they're absolutely petrifying ;-).

Had my first banana pancake of 2007 this morning - felt tremendously good about that ;-). Almost a traveller now. Of course, I enjoyed it in the comfort of a very nice cafe on Rambuttri Rd, instead of sitting on the pavement in Khao San Rd. But I'm getting there, slowly but surely.

In another area of progress - you have no idea how having no agenda opens up possibilities - as I slowly enter the 21st century, I have armed myself with a digital camera. Now all I need to do is learn how to get the amazing pictures I'll undoubtedly be taking uploaded to this blog, and I'll be able to dazzle you with the sights of Thailand.
Just arranged travel to my next port of call: Phuket. Following in the footsteps of Leonardo, I'll be heading for Koh Phi Phi, most likely.

That's all for now. Off for another night in Bangkok ;-)

hey iain,

good to hear you arrived safely and that pancakes taste good.. we were just outside having a cig.. reminiscing about the good days..Paul has taken the role of "bad jokes" but they are not as good.

Anyhow my first post and hope all will just get better in your adventures..

take care and hear from you soon

...no idea Alex... but I can tell you all where I will be tomorrow at 8 pm... anyone can guess ???

the time has come!!! Faithless is in town!!!
and I will scream WE COME 1 with all the force and power I've got in me !!!!!!!!!

...and u all know I have some serious abilitis :)

I must apologies, I am mentally stuck today... and I just had Mr. Mosterd pass my desk...soo

Iain, you should do the jump like Leonardo! Really. Or jump like Madonna, either way just do something crazy. You could for example steal the pancake next time and have a Thai guy chase you with a big knife on the streets... and no worries....its just a video game (if there is no such thing as a pancake knife yet...u can suggest it to him when he finally gets you)...

...oh, wait the minute, you could also make your own society... and may be I should do some work here ..... hmmm ... can we switch?

Hi Iain,

Couldn't resist to write you something, you're in f*cking Thailand, my favourite country!!

If you have some time left you should consider doing a cyclingtour in Bangkok, google on 'Amazing Bangkok Cyclist', with Ko Kessels, weird Dutch guy but he knows everything about Thai culture

Koh Phi Phi, sorry, but Leo did THE jump in a wildpark, north/east of Bangkok...;-) anyhow, Phi phi is beautiful but suffered from tourists, for the real treasure try Mu Koh Surin, a reserve bought by the princess, where 95% of choral is still intact. Amazing snorkeling & diving

Well, I'll stop now before I turn into a busybody juffrouw jannie from the local travelling agency, you'll have a great time there anyhow!!

Enjoy!!!
